A Light to the Nations

Here Come The Greeks.

Listen Later

In the Gospel of John, the sudden mention  of “certain Greeks” who wish to see Jesus seems odd at first. Their appearance on the scene is a fulfillment of what Isaiah describes in the last chapter of his prophetic book: the Lord brings judgment on all men, spares a few of them, and through the remnant brings in others from far away, some which are specifically identified as “Greeks.” In John, all of this happens against the background of the impending crucifixion/glorification of the Lord’s anointed. When we hear that the Greeks are coming, it corresponds to the end of the biblical story. Join me in a discussion of John 12:17-40.
