'Heritage Bazaar', explores the role of ethnic grocery shops in sustaining cultural identity.

This radio documentary takes off from our previous one titled 'Kitchen Stories' that delved into the homes of a few Cork citizens to understand what dinner time looks like for them.

In 'Heritage Bazaar' we invite the multi talented and Cork native, Daniel Heaphy to accept the challenge of making chai. Through the challenge, Daniel interviews various guests to explore the importance of having access to traditional ingredients and groceries and how this helps a person hold on to their cultural identity while living in a new country.

The documentary features interviews with Asad, owner of Asian Foods, Sravan Telu who moved to Ireland one year ago to study at MTU and Banu Rekha Balaji who has lived in Ireland for two decades, is an Occupational Therapist and founder of Therapix. The interviews were held on site at Asian Foods Cork and on North Main St.

Heritage Bazaar has been created with a cross border team with one of the team members, Mugdha Chemburkar Datay Co-Producer of Heritage Bazaar based in Brazil. Daniel Clancy is the Sound Recorder and Editor of the documentary and Music from Justin Grounds - both based in Ireland.

Joanna Dukkipati, founder Good Day Cork, received the Lord Mayor of Cork's Civic Award 2025 in recognition of cultural expression of migrant communities. The Heritage Bazaar documentary falls within this remit and also bridges majority communities in Ireland with the minorities through food memories
