Colossians | The Supremacy of Christ | Jesus Paid It All (2:11–15)

In Colossians 2:11–15, Paul shifts from warning against deception to announcing one of the greatest truths in all of Scripture. He tells us that though we were once dead in our sins, God made us alive in Christ. How? By canceling the record of debt that stood against us—nailing it to the cross.

This is the heart of the gospel: our sins forgiven, our guilt erased, and our debt paid in full through the finished work of Jesus. In Him, we find true freedom, forgiveness, and victory.

Colossians 2:4–10 | The Battle for Truth The assassination of Charlie Kirk was not just the loss of a husband, father, and patriot—it was an attack on truth itself. His life and ministry were dedicated to the battle for truth, equipping believers to stand firm and engage the culture with conviction and grace. Paul’s words in Colossians warn us not to be deceived by plausible lies but to remain rooted in Christ, the only true foundation. In a world at war with truth, we must shine brighter than ever before.

Suffering for the body of Christ (Chapter 1:24 - 2:5) Why does Paul rejoice in suffering? In Colossians 1:24–2:5, Paul shows that affliction for the church is not a defect in Christ’s work but our participation in it—“filling up” what remains in the sufferings of Christ as His body carries the gospel forward. We’ll trace Paul’s own hardship portfolio, unpack what “Christ in you, the hope of glory” really means, and see why the cost of silence is greater than the cost of suffering. The Deity Of Christ (Chapter 1:15-23) Jesus isn’t just a great teacher—He is “the image of the invisible God,” the Creator in whom “all things hold together.” In this message we unpack Paul’s soaring Christology in Colossians 1:15–23, confront the subtle pull of Gnosticism and legalism, and see why the deity of Christ isn’t an abstract doctrine but the very heartbeat of the gospel. Only the God-Man can reconcile us by the blood of His cross, present us holy and blameless, and anchor us “stable and steadfast” in hope. We’ll explore how right belief fuels right living, how Christ perfectly reveals the Father, and how we’re being reshaped into His image as we continue in the faith.

Introduction (Chapter 1:1-14) This message launches our new study through Paul’s letter to the Colossians. Though only four chapters long, this book holds some of the richest theology in the New Testament—reminding us of the supremacy of Christ, the dangers of drifting into error, and the call to walk faithfully in a culture hostile to truth. In this introduction, we explore the background of Colossae and its cultural challenges, Paul’s concern for this young church and his prayer for their spiritual growth, the threat of Gnosticism and legalism and why truth mixed with error is no longer truth, and how belief and behavior are inseparably linked in the Christian life.
