After sacrificing himself to save an innocent, Dusten Dunn was granted a second chance at life, and mystical powers to fight the darkness as Dust, a Mystical Explorer who Eliminates Occult Threats.

Previously, after returning from his meeting with Mr Tomorrow, Dust met with Angelique Dawes, an ally with mystical powers of her own, and twin sister of the villain Madame Delphine. Later that night, he received a call from the local police asking for his help with a situation. When he arrived, he discovered several nightgaunts in a warehouse, who brutally attacked him until he locked himself in a closet in an attempt to catch his breath.
