After sacrificing himself to save an innocent, Dusten Dunn was granted a second chance at life, and mystical powers to fight the darkness as Dust, a Mystical Explorer who Eliminates Occult Threats.

Previously, having barely survived his encounter with the nightgaunts, Dust found crates of strange, seemingly mystical materials that appeared to be ready for shipping. After a trip to the hospital to get treated for his injuries, he once again paid a visit to Angelique Dawes, who informed him that she, too, had been finding the alien substance throughout the city.
