Egotism is the quality of having an inflated sense of oneβs importance or abilities. People with egotistical personalities often have an inflated sense of their self-worth, and they may have an air of smug superiority when interacting with others. This can manifest in many different forms, such as an overbearing attitude, an obsession with oneβs accomplishments, or a drive to always be the βcentre of attentionβ.
The effects of egotism can be far-reaching and often damaging. It can lead to strained relationships with family, friends and colleagues, as egotistical behaviour can be seen as arrogant and inconsiderate. This attitude can also lead to a lack of empathy and an inability to recognize the needs and feelings of others. It can also lead to a sense of entitlement, whereby individuals feel as though they are deserving of special treatment and privileges. Finally, unchecked egotism can cause an individual to neglect important responsibilities and obligations as they become so focused on their desires.
In this episode of the podcast, the many ways that egotistical behaviour can have a negative effect on oneβs life will be explored. Amongst them are:
β’ How excessively entitled, greedily grandiose and overconfidently obnoxious thoughts and actions can lead to strained relationships and an inability to forgive and empathize with others.
β’ The way in which these traits can lead to a lack of inner peace and a lack of respect for oneself.
β’ How an excessive focus on oneβs desires and needs can result in a lack of appreciation for the accomplishments of others.
β’ The impact that an inflated sense of self-importance can have on personal and professional success.
β’ Ways to recognize when egotistical behaviour has taken over and how to put a stop to it.
Practical strategies for overcoming these damaging behaviours will be discussed so that one can live a more fulfilled and balanced life.
The FLUX is now balanced.
