Both of these things? Well, whether it be the wonderful cinematography, Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic score, Alec Baldwin's fine leading man performance or the dodgy use of prosthetics and the movie's ultimately messy narrative, know that we have left no stone unturned as we try to figure out if The Shadow is worthy of a second chance. The first part in our, 'Dodgy 90s Superhero Movies' season of podcast is here, and well, it turns out that 1996's box office flop, The Phantom might not be nearly as dodgy as we remember. Spoiler alert - beyond a somewhat disappointing final act, The Phantom proves a surprisingly fun watch - perhaps it was released at the wrong time, perhaps fans were expecting something else, but you owe it to yourself to give this underappreciated gem (albeit a flawed gem) another go.....oh, and our podcast of course - you should give that a go too! Possibly the most 80s movie to be released in the 90s, whether it be Brandon Lee's scene stealing performance, Dolph Lundgren's almost alarming love of all things Japan (except Yakuza, of course), or the movie's fantastically brief 79 minute runtime, this wonderful throwback deserves to be revisited by anyone with a love for 80s-style cinema.
