Recover Yourself: Out from Under the Influence

Hiding from Ourselves

Listen Later

We all have things about us we want nobody to know, but have you ever asked yourself why? There are moments in our lives where we all are less then who we know we can be. This isn’t uncommon but in hiding from others where are we hiding from ourselves? Feeling embarrassed brings up the question of Who are we, and what are we doing? It is one thing to be private about certain things within our lives but are we being honest with ourselves about how we want to live it? I found, in some areas of my life that I was fooling myself keeping actions from people very close to me thinking it would not effect me, but I still held shame and embarrassment but it was coming from me. I was embarrassed to be in a Hay House contest for example. I was also embarrassed about using the P90X, and Beach Body videos. Why was I embarrassed about these?

I made a list of all the other things that I feel embarrassed about and I found that I was hiding mostly things that put me in a position to be better. Bettering myself, in specific ways, somewhere within me, made me ashamed. Of course, those are not the only things but in order to honestly and continually recover myself, and all that I can be I need to investigate these.

All my teaching revolves around Awareness Avoidance and its all too easy to avoid being aware of all the subtle places we hide ourselves away. So many of these hiding places are old ideas that are buried in our subconscious. These are safe little boxes that people in our lives gave us the plans for. We simply elected to construct them and exist within them.

If you find yourself hiding something from someone you love, ask yourself why? Is there an image of yourself you are unwilling to let go of to be yourself completely?

Recover Yourself is a podcast series focused on recovering strength and power we have inadvertently given up. There is no limit to our power and yet we have all be shown, warned, and taught to live in fear that we are not enough and that there is not enough resource in the world for us.

As a former addict I am coming out with the message that we can all recover. I am changing the conversation from "Recover From" to "Recover To" and I want to help people recover who they are. .

MartinJon is the host of Recover Yourself and a mentor, speaker and originator of Portrait Facilitation which helps people recover themselves completely. MartinJon is dedicated to contributing his unique experiences to better the world, his life and the lives of others by helping people understand we have no limits.
