High Rip Current Risk Alerts: Carolinas Beaches Face Challenging Surf Conditions This Weekend with Strong Winds

Listen Later

Surf's Up Beach Lovers! We're tracking some serious coastal conditions along the Carolinas this weekend.

The surf scene is heating up with moderate to high rip current risks, especially around New Hanover County beaches. Wrightsville, Carolina, and Kure Beach are looking at some gnarly conditions today with surf heights cranking up to 2 to 5 feet and northeast winds blasting 15 to 20 miles per hour. Beach safety is critical right now!

Pender County beaches like Surf City and Topsail are experiencing a moderate rip current risk with 2 to 4 foot waves and northeast winds around 15 mph. Expect strong longshore currents that could challenge even experienced swimmers.

Over in Brunswick County, the surf is a bit calmer with lower rip current risks near Ocean Isle Beach. Waves are running 1 to 3 feet with similar northeast wind patterns.

South Carolina's beaches are also seeing some action. Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas have 1 to 3 foot surf with low rip current risks. Coastal Georgetown is experiencing moderate rip current conditions with 2 to 4 foot waves.

Water temperatures are holding steady in the upper 70s, and we're looking at mostly sunny to partly sunny conditions across all areas. UV index is high, so sunscreen is your best friend!

Weekend warriors should exercise extreme caution. Those northeast winds are creating strong currents that can quickly turn a fun beach day into a dangerous situation. Always swim near a lifeguard, watch for warning flags, and know your limits.

Stay safe and catch those waves responsibly!
