Good morning. Pennsylvania. I'm Aaron Jolly.
In Here's story today, a classic spring setup, you've deceptive calm right now. Followed by a powerful storm tonight and Monday that demands your attention.
Let's talk about the day ahead, while it starts deceptively quiet. Western Pennsylvania sees the warmest air, hitting 70 degrees under partly sunny skies. That's roughly 15 degrees above normal for mid-March, head east toward Central PA and the clouds increase. You'll see a high of 53 degrees, with southeast Pennsylvania sits in the middle at 56 degrees.
Moving on. But the wind is the first sign of what's coming. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Laurel Highlands and much of Western PA. Southeast winds could gust 45 to 50 miles an hour, especially on the ridges. Secure those trash cans.
As the sun sets. Rain arrives overnight. The heaviest downpours hit between 11 P.M. and 2 A.M. It's a soaker. With widespread rain expected statewide, temperatures stay unusually mild tonight, hovering in the upper 40s. That's about 15 degrees warmer than a typical March night.
Monday brings the main event, a strong cold front sweeps through. We're facing an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms, the timing looks to be late afternoon into the evening. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts over 60 miles an hour. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out, mainly near and east of I-99.
Temperature-wise. Once that front clears, reality sets in, tuesday brings a massive temperature crash. Highs drop into the 30s and low 40s, that's a 30-degree swing from Monday. Rain may change to snow showers Monday night in the mountains, with a dusting possible.
Looking ahead. Looking at the week ahead. Tuesday stays windy and cold. We slowly recover toward normal by Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low 50s. Another chance of rain returns next Saturday.
Charge your phones now and keep them handy — you might need alerts tonight.
See you this afternoon.
