I have been working on finding white space in my life for many years now. I've had some success. I've gone from constantly running on the hamster wheel of life to learning how to trust, have more space, and be comfortable. I've been able to move away from being a total overachiever and workaholic. It was a slow process that took time and conscious effort.
Now, I've become comfortable in white space. And I think that going into white space takes tremendous courage and vulnerability (uncertainty, emotional exposure, and risk). The reward of that courage and vulnerability is gaining the opportunity to really get to know yourself.
In this podcast, which was originally published in 2016, Hiro Boga and I talk about white space and how we can use it to return to ourselves. Hiro is a business strategist, teacher, adviser, and mentor.
One of the issues many of us will face with finding white space is that the rhythm and pace of our workplaces, schools, and societies does not always match the natural rhythm of ourselves. We usually have to actively work to find opportunities to slow down. And to turn those opportunities into white space we have to go even further and resist spending that time on things like social media.
Listen to this episode to learn strategies for finding white space in your life, the benefits of play and organized play, how to discover who you are, how white space fits into parenting, and more. I invite you to create more white space in your life and use it to return to yourself.
