- Robert Davis's DNA was found on four items with her body, including electrical tape around her neck, and under her fingernails.
- Davis was also the last person seen with Heather Higgins, a journalism student who vanished in 2010, and he pawned the jewelry she had planned to sell.
- The original autopsy ruled the death "indeterminate" and omitted dozens of wounds until a detective compared it to crime-scene photos and got it reclassified as homicide.
- Despite the DNA, the prosecutor declined to charge Davis, who has never been arrested and now lives in Iowa; both cases remain open.
