And now back to our regularly scheduled programming!
We’re coming at you this week with a bit of weird history, a snowy panda, soap operas, and a pretty heinous serial killer.
Maggie is up first and is going to tell the story of Hiroo Onoda, a Lieutenant in the Japanese Army during World War II who, after being left on an island in the Philippines, refused to stop fighting the war for 29 years. Onoda refused to believe that the war had ended and Japan surrendered, so he and his three soldiers spent almost 30 years attacking and murdering Filipino farmers throughout Lubang Island.
The Grim Sleeper (also known as Lonnie) recently died in prison, which was the inspiration for Dreia to look into his story and talk about it. Lonnie operated as a serial killer in CA during a time period when there were several other serial killers operating in the same area, which slowed down the investigation by a lot. He was caught due to familial DNA in 2010 and died in prison just last month.
