Historolics

Historolics, episode 5, World War II (1939-1945)

Listen Later

Hello and welcome to another episode of Historolics. This episode will be the first of the series to not cover a specific country, it will be covering a event instead, and so why not start with the event that is most commonly discussed by both people interested and not interested in history, World War II. This episode will cover the period before the war from the mid 1930s to 1939, it will then go into the German invasion of Poland and the Phoney War of fall and winter 1940, followed by the Western Front and the Axis invasion of Scandinavia, the Benelux and France in spring 1940. It will then go into other Axis fields of combat in North Africa and will also cover the Eastern front from the commencement of the German invasion and the subsequent German offensives up to just outside Moscow and how the Soviets counterattacked. Following this it will go into what occurred in the Pacific before going back to Europe to cover the German retreat, the fall of Italy and the opening of the Western Front; which is all encompassed with the period leading to the end of the war (in Europe) from autumn 1944 to May 1945. The episode will finally conclude with going into detail more a bit with what occurred in the Pacific Theatre and how the war truly ended in August and September 1945 with the events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This episode I do summarize parts that are covered more in depth in previous ones so please listen to the other ones if you want to be filled in more on things I skip or summarize.

Thank you very much for listening, and as always, have a nice day.
