This week, Scott and Aaron remember Supreme Court cases, Juneteenth in 1865, and the 1771 execution of six Regulators in Hillsborough. The Regulators were early patriots who were executed essentially for speaking out against British colonial rule – a stark reminder not only that we need to remember our rights and codify them on paper, but also that we need to care about them and insist that they be enforced, and put people in charge who care about them too. (Many of our landmark Supreme Court Bill of Rights cases were handed down shockingly recently. As bad as the British colonial government was at respecting individual rights, the U.S. government hasn’t always been much better.)
