In February of 1891, advertisements for "Ouija, the Wonderful Talking Board" started popping up in newspapers across the United States. In the beginning, the ads described Ouija Boards in spectacular ways--stating even that they could answer questions "about the past, present, and future with marvelous accuracy." Given the illustrious nature of these advertisements, the Ouija Board became a very hot commodity among mediums and spiritualists. However, as the ghost story spread, the board took on a more sinister reputation; and before long, the Ouija Board was regarded as one of the most infamous board games in history.
