Ricky Hatton MBE, also known as the ‘Hitman’ is a Former 3 x Light Welterweight & Welterweight World Champion. He is also well known in the industry for being a boxing promoter and trainer, with his son, Campbell, following closely in his footsteps.
Despite Hatton’s fame and success over the years, he has spoken openly about his inner battles with his mental health following on from high-profile defeats at the hands of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Hatton stated, "I didn't struggle with being famous, but I struggled with being beaten”. He aims to give others hope and reassurance that if you are struggling with depression, you are not alone and will get through the bad days.
The world champion is also very well known for the abundance of charity work he has been involved in. Hatton has worked incredibly hard to raise awareness and speak about men’s mental health, as well as being heavily involved in helping the homeless and donating to many other charities.
Hatton talks throughout the podcast about how he overcame problems with drink, drugs and depression, and why mental health issues are so prevalent in boxing today.
