Hebrews was originally written for Jewish Christians facing persecution. There would have been a strong temptation to revert to Judaism or compromise their faith in Christ. However, the spiritual inheritance we’re promised—something distinct from our eternally secure salvation—depends on our willingness to “hold fast” to our faith (Hebrews 3:6). After all, faithlessness makes pleasing God impossible (Hebrews 11:6).
