Paul is still defending the absolute trustworthiness of the Bible which he began in 9-6. God has not rejected Israel. He uses two figures to make his argument- dough and grafting. He demonstrates again that God is sovereign in administering grace, and that salvation has always and only been through faith. His promises have not failed but He is still fulfilling them and the success of the gospel will be realized among Gentiles and Jews.
