Big Idea: Home is a Place and a Person: Jesus!
John 1:14
1 – God Became One of Us.
John 1:1-3
Lying at your feet is your dog. Imagine, for the moment, that your dog and every dog is in deep distress. Some of us love dogs very much. If it would help all the dogs in the world to become like men, would you be willing to become a dog? Would you put down your human nature, leave your loved ones, your job, hobbies, your art and liter ature and music, and choose instead of the intimate communion with your beloved, the poor substitute of looking into the beloved’s face and wagging your tail, unable to smile or speak? Christ by becoming man limited the thing which to Him was the most precious thing in the world; his unhampered, unhindered communion with the Father.
C.S. Lewis2 – God Came to All of Us.
John 1:14
1 John 4:16b
God put a dog in the race, his own son. His own self. It’s the most extraordinary act of love, so catastrophic in its beauty, we’re still in shock two thousand years later.
Dr. Martin Shaw3 – God Welcomes Us Home.
John 1:14
The truth will set you free, but not until it’s done with you.
David Foster WallaceBig Idea: Home is a Place and a Person: Jesus!
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,That saved a wretch; like me!I once was lost, but now am found,Was blind, but now I see.Through many dangers, toils and snaresI have already come:’tis grace has brought me safe thus far,and grace will lead me home.
John NewtonThe whole dance, or drama, or pattern of this three Personal life is to be played out in each one of us; or (putting it the other way round) each one of us has got to enter that pattern, take his place in the dance. . . . Good things as well as bad, you know, are caught by a kind of infection. If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire; if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them. . . . If you are close to it, the spray will wet you: if you are not, you will remain dry.
C. S. LewisJohn 8:12
Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins. I want to turn away from my sins and place my trust in You as my Lord and Savior. Please receive me now. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
