Homeless Mother Desperately Searches for Housing To Keep Kids in her Care

Listen Later

This week I met with an Indigenous mother living in Lawrence who is desperately searching to find a landlord who will accept her housing voucher, so she can keep custody of her children.

Faro, a mother of three, who is pregnant, lost her housing after she fell behind on rent in May, June and July. The family was evicted on her youngest daughter's seventh birthday.

Now Faro and two of her children are staying in a hotel financed by the Department of Children and Family Services. But the funding expires Monday, and Faro has yet to secure a place to live.

In my first episode, Faro describes the obstacles she faces as she strives to keep her family intact.
