In 2016, the number of people in Australia reported to be homeless was 116,000, or 1 in every 200. In fact, given the number of social connections that an average person maintains, it is likely that you know someone experiencing homelessness.
You may think, "Surely not, I don't know anyone living on the street". But as this week's podcast guest explains, homelessness comes in a variety of forms.

On this episode, we unveil Lyndal Lowth, the Cairns Service Leader for Orange Sky Australia.
Orange Sky is a mobile laundry and shower service that focuses on creating a safe, positive, and supportive environment for people who feel disconnected from the community.

In the week of recording this podcast, Orange Sky's 2000 volunteers did more than 1100 loads of washing across every state and territory of Australia. They also accompanied and engaged in conversation with their friends – their terminology for client — for more than 1600 hours. 

Lyndal joins me to talk about all of this, including the realities of homelessness and the social need that Orange Sky endeavours to address.
