After a nuclear bomb explodes off the coast of California, Jeff takes his wife Tara and teenage son Abe to the safety of billionaire Ian's mansion. Little do they know they're not safe. Based on the Black Autumn series of novels by Jeff Kirkham and Jason Ross, the screenplay by co-writers Philip Abraham, Leah Bateman and Jason Ross is convoluted, disjointed, contrived and unimaginative. It's another post-apocalyptic film, but it's overloaded and leaves audiences cold. The characters are underplayed, there are too many subplots, too many conflicts, an inconsistent tone and barely enough focus. It also takes up at least 20 minutes too long. Clocking in at an hour and 50 minutes but actually feeling like three, director Ben Smallbone's Homestead is in theaters nationwide through Angel Studios. Stream Homestead movie on Afdah movies.
