Hebrews warns us to pay careful attention to the good news we have received, lest we slowly drift away from it. The danger is not always a deliberate rejection of faith. Sometimes it is simply neglect—allowing our hearts to wander from the grace and salvation God has given us in Jesus Christ.

Yet the gospel calls us back to Christ, reminding us of the greatness of the salvation he has accomplished for us.

Hebrews reminds us that God is at work on behalf of his people—those who are “to inherit salvation.” Our hope does not rest in our own strength, but in the Son whose throne endures forever.

In a world filled with competing voices demanding our attention, Hebrews calls us to listen again to the one voice that stands above them all. Jesus Christ is not simply another messenger from God. He is God’s final and definitive Word to us.

Dallas is a 2021 graduate of Beeson Divinity School, serves as a staff chaplain at UAB Hospital, is an inquirer for ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and is a member of South Highland Presbyterian Church on Birmingham's Southside.

In Psalm 124, the people of God look back with gratitude and confess that their help has never come from their own strength, but from the Lord, who faithfully delivers and preserves his people. In one of the most hope-filled passages in all of Scripture, the Apostle Paul reminds us that because of Jesus Christ, condemnation no longer has the final say. Sin does not have the final word. Death does not have the final word. Our failures and fears do not have the final word. Through Christ, God has declared us forgiven, set us free by the power of the Holy Spirit, and given us the promise of new life.
