Homophobic hate crimes face seven-year jail terms

New legislation introduced by the state government increases penalties for homophobic hate crimes to up to seven years imprisonment. The laws come in response to a spate of disturbing attacks and aim to give police and courts greater powers to hold perpetrators accountable. Premier Chris Minns described the behaviour as deplorable and disgusting.
