Michael Aitcheson // When we pray, we hope the kingdom of God will impact us here and now on earth as we wait for Jesus to establish it. “Your kingdom come” means we are asking, pleading to experience something of the future power of God to break through to our present lives, right now in current pain or joy. This invites us to see his reign and power and learn about his will on earth as it is in heaven. Our Father is also our King of creation, and he has a will that is best for our lives. God’s kingdom is his authority—his sovereignty—over all things present and future. The kingdom of God comes when the gospel is preached or shared and the word of God is used instrumentally by him to save people and bring them into his family.
