If you’re playing a game for the first time, whether it is a board game, a video game, or a school yard game, you start with the basics. You need to know what the goal of the game is and what the rules are. Otherwise, you can spend a lot of time and energy trying to win, but never get anywhere close. In life – especially as a child of God – there are some basics. God finishes off the Ten Commandments with some of the most basic rules for life that have ever been given. But just because they are simple and well-known doesn’t mean that God’s people are following them. Today will be a ‘back-to-basics’ day for us, and maybe it will help us get back on track spiritually by reminding us of how we can make simple (although not easy) choices in following Jesus.
