Honoree 3: Corporal Freddie Stowers!
Our 3rd Black History honoree is Corporal Freddie Stowers. Corporal Stowers fought bravely in World War 1 becoming the first African American to receive the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for his valor. President H. W. Bush presented the MOH and Purple Heart to the Stowers family representatives in April of 1991. Many advances have been made to seek other lost commendations for soliders of color since this honor was bestowed to the Stowers Family.
