This Saturday, Toni Stone Stadium will transform into a lively hub as it hosts a remarkable event honoring Dave Winfield, a local legend known for his outstanding contributions both on and off the baseball field. Named after Toni Stone—a groundbreaking figure as the first woman and Black woman to play in a major men's professional league—the stadium sets the perfect stage for this inspiring occasion. This event is seamlessly woven into the fabric of the Rondo Days festival, a joyous celebration of heritage and strength in the beloved Rondo neighborhood.

Robin Hickman-Winfield emphasizes that this event surpasses acknowledging baseball prowess; it's about living legacies that inspire future generations. Astonishingly, St. Paul boasts four baseball Hall of Famers, highlighting the city’s remarkable sports heritage. Fifty years ago, Winfield founded the Winfield Awards to honor young athletes of color, reflecting his deep commitment to empowering youth—a value instilled by his mother and family.

As St. Paul prepares to honor Dave Winfield with a statue, this tribute stands as a testament to Winfield's dedication to perseverance, philanthropy, and uplifting others. These stories of remarkable individuals and communities continue to shape our world positively, one legacy at a time.
