In all of the controversy that swirls around our nation, some have pointed at a lack of common and normalized respect for one another as a root cause for much of our unrest and unhealth as a society. In the Ten Commandments, God clearly sets out rules meant to point us towards the necessity of honoring one another. From parents to spouses to people in general, God tells His people that it matters how we treat one another. And it still matters. God’s people should be examples of how embracing God’s way revolutionizes culture. But far too often, we relegate these commands to a lesser place and treat them more like suggestions to follow so long as we don’t find them distasteful at the moment. What if God was serious in telling His people to honor others?
