Hooray For Me is a compilation of compiled stories that are typed because my handwriting is worse than a doctor filling out a prescription with a fountain pen, while riding in a NYC cab, when it's sleeting. And, I'm not sure why this doctor is filing out a prescription in a cab, but I would avoid said doctor, that sounds way too shady for me. Yeh, now that I think of it, don't go to that doctor. But please listen to Hooray For Me: a Foggy Memoir, I think you will really enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you very much!

Wonderful Read
Big things, small packages...you know the old saw...
Visiting home over Thanksgiving, based on a friend's recommendation, my mother and I both read Hooray For Me. She and I ended up having long conversations over hot cups of coffee and rashers of bacon about the basic themes in the book. If that sounds dry, don't fear; the book is fun and funny and it's certainly not a hard read, as you feel like you're having a conversation with an old, wonderful, warm and funny friend. But, at the same time, the book caused me...well both of us really, to muse over our lives. We talked about the bullies that plagued us and the friends that helped us through the plagues. We mused on the power of teachers, both good and bad. We touched on the humor and the sadness of losing my father. And we talked about our hurts, our relationship to each other, and our relationships to others in our family. And we laughed. We laughed over ourselves, our family, and some of the great lines in the book. It's a slim book, small, I imagine, by most folk's estimation. But in its slimness, its small stature, it opened up big things in both of us and brought my mother and I a bit closer together
And that ain't no small thing.

It's always a pleasure to read a memoir by an author that doesn't spend much time commiserating about the trials that life can throw at you. Instead she's more interested in showing that life in a way that makes you feel like in the end, whatever's happened, everything's just gonna be alright. Ello Black has a unique way of looking at life and this retelling of her personal history uses an uncommon writing style that had me laughing throughout. Someone told me to wave both my hands over my head when reading the title and I'd instantly feel better (it works by the way.) That last sentence is about as best as I can describe the book in a nutshell. Read the story, you'll definitely feel better by the end.
