The book of Acts chapter 27 and verse 20 tells us exactly what happens in any country when the people have chosen to disregard the Word of God. “When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up.”

Historically, this kind of hopelessness quite often, precedes a spiritual awakening. But thank God Psalm 107 begins with a declaration of God’s willingness to show mercy. The psalmist says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good for His mercy endures forever.”

When people are wandering, they’re hungry, they’re thirsty, they’re bound because of rebellion, afflicted by their own foolishness, spiritually bankrupt, He calms the storm, He stills the waves. He fulfills their deepest longings when people cry out to Him.
