In Hosea 6 & 7, God's people cry out to God for help but are not crying out with broken hearts or surrendered wills. They want happiness, but not holiness. They want their circumstances to change but not their character. They treat God like a lifeguard who should rescue them from danger when they call but never deliver them from their sins. They still love their sin more than God and shed tears of remorse over their suffering rather than repentance over their sin. They want God to act on their terms rather than Gods. His gracious hand must permeate our entire being so our hearts, minds, and souls are all devoted to Him. Instead of flailing around like doves, His desire is that we grow into eagles and soar with Him.
