With just over 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin got to his feet after the tackle then fell to the ground. The Bills training staff immediately ran onto the field where they found Hamlin in cardiac arrest. They administered CPR and restored his heartbeat. Hamlin's Bills teammates and the coaching staff were clearly emotional watching the situation play out in front of them.  Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance and transported to a Cincinnati hospital. Bills coach Sean McDermott and Bengals coach Zach Taylor met with game officials to discuss the next steps. The decision was made to temporarily suspend the game. Minutes later the coaches met again outside the locker room with the game and NFL officials where it was decided that the game would be postponed.
