House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the early 1980s in Chicago, Illinois. The genre was born out of the disco scene and was influenced by various genres including funk, soul, and post-disco. House music became popular in the underground club scene in Chicago and quickly spread to other cities in the United States, as well as Europe.
