Members of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol have said in no uncertain terms that, if witnesses refuse to comply with congressional subpoenas they will refer those witnesses to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution. This approach was unavailable to Congress during the tenure of Attorney General Bill Barr, as Barr was more interested in protecting a criminal president than he was in assisting Congress enforce subpoenas that sought evidence that could incriminate Donald Trump.
