Alexandra residents, north of Johannesburg are disgruntled by the new trend of block of flats emerging in the informal sections of the township. This despite protests throughout in recent years over the mushrooming of backrooms and other illegal structures - which led to the Alex Total shut down movement. Those that have bond houses say they couldn't renovate without the city's approval yet others get away with it. The residents say the illegal structures have also contributed to the high crime rate in area. Pearl Magubane filed this report...
