Families Embracing Diversity

How Books Can Help Kids Understand Diversity

Listen Later

Today’s conversation is with Andrea Olatunji, the author of Omar el Jaguar. She is originally from Uruguay and has been a Spanish teacher for 20 years. Her struggle to find the right materials for her students and her son led her to write “Omar el Jaguar”, a beautiful book written in Spanish that highlights the importance of working together to take care of our world despite what we look like or what we are good at. Andrea talks to us about the importance of using books to talk to children about diversity and helping our children learn to appreciate the diverse world around them.
