HOW CHRISTIANS DO CONFLICT

What causes fights and quarrels among you? James 4:1

Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have . . . . You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. James 4:1-2

The source of every dispute is

unfulfilled desire.

ATTACK

AVOID

If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. Matthew 18:15

ENGAGE

1. CHECK YOUR HEART

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

2. OWN YOUR PART

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:4-5

3. LISTEN TO LEARN

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. . . . James 1:19-20

4. SPEAK YOUR MIND

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy. Proverbs 27:6

5. FREE YOUR GRIP

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32

6. SEEK THE PEACE

(when possible)

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:17-19

7. STAY ON MISSION

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. 2 Corinthian 5:19-20
