Why do we need to hire a designer?

Most companies have employees who are far more experienced, who understand the issues the company is facing more intimately and who by all logic would do a much better job at solving the problems the company is facing.

So why would you pay someone who knows next to nothing about your issues to come in and tell you how to change your company?
