Lack of desperation can make us insensitive to channels for that change we seek. Desperation is wrong as long as it is towards God. You can't want a change from the Lord and you show no zeal or readiness. I strongly believe that to the degree we are desperate is to the degree we reach and take hold of that which we seek from the Lord.
