In a #projectmanagement environment, a #projectmanager will drive #projects using their authority and assigning work to people with a deadline for delivery.  

In a #scrum environment, a #scrummaster doesn't have the same kind of authority. Instead, they must develop influence and use that influence to help the team create an environment where everyone can excel.  

Influence is based on trust.  

Without trust, you can't develop and grow your influence in an environment at all. 

If you don't have the respect and trust of your team, you're going to achieve very little as a scrum master and find yourself out in the cold sooner rather than later.
