How many of you, either right now, or when starting out ask yourself, how do I get more followers? How do I get more email subscribers? How do I get more reel views or shares?
Don’t be ashamed. Yes, this is very common. These are the questions we are asking, because in our minds we are connecting more of these metrics with growth in our business.
But I’m here to tell you…You are asking the wrong questions.
Instead of asking how do I get more followers? How do I grow my Instagram? How do I get more likes on a post. You need to be asking how do I create and share content that is worth following.
What does this mean?
There are two ways to grow your business: 1 - Through Paid advertisements, like FB ads, Google Ads, Pinterest Ads, and more.
And the second way is through content marketing.
Paid advertising is an amazing way for you to grow your business. But when you’re starting out, you may not have a marketing or advertising budget. That’s okay. In business, you can either use time or money to grow. And you usually only have one or the other, or you usually only want to spend one or the other.
Most people, especially when you are starting out, use content marketing as a way to grow your business.
So what is content marketing? Content marketing is when you create relatable, relevant, and reliable content for your audience.
Content can be created in many different forms. From social media posts, to emails, podcasts, blogs, tutorials. You name it, in our day and age, the sky's the limit!
So let’s break down how to create and share content that is worth following.
Your content needs to be these three things:
Relatable
Relevant
Reliable
What does it mean to have relatable content? It means that the content you are creating builds a connection with someone else. And that starts out with you actually knowing who it is that you are speaking to. There are billions of people in the world, and if you are ready to stand out in the crowd, you need to have a specific message to a specific person.
When you are creating content that is relatable, you stand out from the crowd and people will connect that you are the person who can help them solve their problem.
Which leads into the next piece that your content needs to be: Relevant. Your content needs to serve a purpose. This means that you are cutting away the fluff of trying to do all the things and simplify into one single message. This is your brand. This is defining what it is that you do and being so clear on it that everything you create leads back to that message.
I’ve worked with tons of women and especially in some of the masterminds that I’m in, there seems to be this lack of clarity.
Women want to do this, but they also want to do that, but they help people in this way, but they know that that other way could work. And in the end, everyone is confused. And remember, a confused client doesn’t buy. You do not want to confuse the people you are speaking to. You want what you say to be relevant and serve a purpose for them.
Because while YOU are creating the content, everyone is looking to find a part of them IN that content. They want to know what’s in it for them. This is human nature.
When we think about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we know that people are motivated by things that will help them better survive. People are programmed to seek out things that they know will help them. When you create content that serves a very specific, very actionable purpose, you are going to gain those superfans, those followers that put their trust in you.
Make sure that your content is relevant.
