Ephesians 4:26-27

New International Version

26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

Topos: a place, region, seat; an opportunity.

Four things God has given us that Satan distorts to get a foothold.

  1. Work
  2. Protect
  3. Discover
  4. Relationships
  5. Work: work was given to us so we would have a purpose.

    6. Genesis 2:15-17 NIV

    How do we not give the devil a foothold in our work?

    1. Protect: God gave us this desire to protect so we can keep what He has given us.
    2. How do we not give the devil a foothold in our protection?
    3. 3 Desire to discover - God has placed a desire for discovery in us.

      4. Matthew 13:44-46 NIV

      Matthew 7:7-8 NLT

      Satan’s three-step plan is to deceive us and our counter to his getting a foothold.

      Genesis 3:1-6 NIV

      1. Satan plants one seed of doubt.
        2. Counter the foothold: tell somebody.
      2. Satan attacks our desire for truth.
        3. (God’s holding back) Counter the foothold: What is God’s truth on that subject?
      3. Satan uses our emotions and desires to lead us instead of God’s word.
        4. Counter the foothold: Pray and ask God to give you wisdom over your emotions and know God will not tell you to do something counter to His word.
      4. Relationships

        How does Satan get a foothold in our relationships?

        Isolation

        Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT

        The counter: staying in a relationship with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
