The Second World War saw major engagements on both land and sea. During those years, America, entering after the attack on Pearl Harbor, faced off against Japan and the Imperial Japanese Navy. From 1941 to 1945, the two nations fought over specks of sand spread out across the largest ocean, the Pacific. While the navies battled with aircraft carriers and battleships, America deployed one of their most powerful weapons, submarines. These vessels would prove to play a pivotal role during the war. Despite their impact, however, they are often forgotten and overlooked. Just how much did the USN's submarines contribute to the defeat of Japan, and why are they not heard of more?
