In the War in Afghanistan, he led his pilots as a flight commander in over eighty combat missions, making him the only fighter pilot to fly two different types of jets into combat on the same day while supporting troops under fire. Hasard was then selected to fly the F-35, the most advanced and expensive weapons system ever developed. As Chief of Training Systems for a major training base, he led the advancement of new technology and teaching methods for future fighter pilots.
