How Giving Back Can Break Down Barriers for Businesses
In this episode of the Insurance Marketing Brain Dump Podcast, Keagan Henson of BriteBee and Chris Paradiso of Paradiso Insurance are at the Liberty Mutual Safeco Event to talk with Alexis Holzer, the manager of the independent agent giving program at Safeco, about the agent giving program which gives grants to non-profits on behalf of agents that volunteer with them.

Alexis believes that it is important to give back through your business. Your community is the lifeblood of your business so agents feel a strong responsibility to give back. Giving back is good for retention. Working with people who are community-minded and putting your money towards a cause can be a powerful tool to build relationships. Giving back can break down barriers between agents, carriers, and the communities.
2. How do you qualify? | 4:52
Safeco and Liberty Mutual will give away $375,000 in 2020 to 90 agent non-profit teams. So to qualify for some of this you need to be acquainted Safeco or Liberty Mutual in the IA channel. A lot of the grants are rewarded through an online application. There are simple questions to answer. Then a panel of volunteers read the applications to select the winner. Then they give the winner a check and do some local public relations (PR) for them to raise awareness. Many times, this PR gets more people on board to help give back.

The best place to start for a Safeco appointed agent is by talking to the territory manager. A lot of times the territory manager is already involved, so they may offer some good insight. Another way is to log in to your Safeco Now portal to view potential grants.
