Ephesians 2 (NLT)
19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
Paul is writing the the church in Ephesus. They have major conflict problems.
Jews/Gentiles…were opposed to each other…now they must learn how to be one. They have to lean how to not break under conflict pressure.
Paul uses three metaphors to help the church understand that they are build on and with something stronger than any other community on earth.
They are now:
Citizens of the same kingdom
Members of the same family
Pieces of the same New Covenant Temple
I want you to see:
Three ways Jesus says from the cross, “You are now one. You cannot break.”
