How graphite conducts electricity?

Graphite is a black shiny solid. Graphite has layered structure. Layers are held by van der Waals forces and distance between two layers is 340pm. Electrons are mobile and therefore, graphite conducts electricity. Graphite is used as a lubricant in machines and pencils making.
