The whole point of hypnosis, and of auto-hypnosis, is to create conviction without deploying or therefore misdeploying one’s critical faculties. Auto-hypnosis is about drawing enthusiasm from within oneself, as opposed to from a warped understanding of reality. Rationalization on the other hand is about generating emotional conviction from a warped understanding of reality, rather than from within the depths of one’s soul. So auto-hypnosis doesn’t involve a misdeployment of one’s faculty of judgment and it therefore doesn’t result in a perversion of those faculties. By contrast, rationalization does involve such a misdeployment and therefore does result in such a perversion.
